Our morning Train, well all trains to Amsterdam were cancelled, but in true Rick Steves style, our tour host Lisa took it right in stride and found a bus to take us to Amsterdam in time to meet our local Art guide who gave us an unbelievable tour of the Rijksmuseum. Seeing art we had only seen and heard about in books and on TV gave us the thrill of a lifetime. We feel there is such a good variety of experiences offered on this tour, this being one of them. We saw Rembrandts , Vermeers, and Hals. Since the “NightWatch” was beginning a restoration it was behind a sheet of glass and our guide said we should put our noses up to the glass because this was the closest we would ever be to the painting by Rembrandt who used light and motion in this very large painting.
The Rjiks
A canal cruise around Amsterdam with a history and information lesson about buildings, and interesting facts about the City were shared by our Guide Lisa.
Our group enjoyed this leisurely cruise through the beautiful canals of this fascinating city. |
Lisa had shown us how to use public transportation in Amsterdam and we were given a day pass and a train ticket back to Haarlem, so we were free and on our own for the afternoon and evening. We really like being able to do some things on our own. An important reason we chose this tour.
