Rothenburg was our next destination, it is on the romantic road in Germany. It is one of three towns in Germany that still has completely intact walls around the city. We enjoyed walking the wall and seeing the half timber buildings and cobble stone streets. We looked forward to seeing the City centers Clock Tower with the doors that open on the hour and tell the legend of how the Mayor saved the City during the 30 years wars. Unfortunately for us it wasn’t working, but our evening following the Nightwatchman and listening to his stories was delightful.
St Jakobs Church is the largest church in this wall-enclosed medieval city. It is filled with art and is famous for the intricate Holy Blood Altar by artist Tillman Riemenschneider, Germany’s most renowned woodcarver.
