We tried to experience it all! |
Canals, Mask making, Shopping on the Rialto Bridge, Cicchetti , St Marks Basillica, The Horses of Constantinople, and the Doge’s Palace
Our local guides had been outstanding throughout our tour and this one was no exception. We were anxious to go into St. Mark’s Basilica to see the Horses and all the mosaic in the Cathedral, however, we hadn’t gotten tickets ahead of time and feared it wouldn’t be possible. Our guide said the crowds were so small that we should go back when we finished our tour and see if the line was long, we followed her advice and 15 minutes later we were inside and the horses I had read so much about were so amazing. Such interesting information she shared and our visit to a mask maker for Carnevale was so much fun. We so enjoyed watching the artist’s skill making beautiful masks and using some of our tour members as models.

One evening we decided to take Ricks advice and get lost in Venice and try Cicchetti. So we headed across the Rialto Bridge and into some of the back streets in Venice. We saw people sitting around having drinks and small bites so we went in and feeling a little unsure if anyone could understand me I asked the young man “English”? And he looks at me and says “no I’m Italian”. So embarrassed I apologized for being such a crazy tourist. We became instant friends. He explained what each item was and talked me into having the orange drink I was seeing everyone drinking, an aperol spritzer. He even came out once and asked if I liked it and if I thought I should have another! It was a great evening as we enjoyed Cicchetti with the locals! And finally, after finding our way to St. Marks square, we were able to find our way back to the hotel!
